Getting a Better Nights Sleep

Written by admin. No comments Posted in: Sleeping

There are few things more satisfying than a good nights sleep but for many people it’s a difficult thing to get. Part of the problem is that your daily routine or life style choices play a big part in whether you can get to sleep easily and stay that way all night. Obviously there are many pharmaceutical aids that will help you get to sleep but doing it all natural is always the best way to go.

First thing is first, if you like to stay up all night and sleep all day, you are starting off on the wrong foot right away. Your body has a fantastic internal clock which regulates itself based on sunlight and darkness. Based on that alone, sleeping all day is gonna hurt you in the long term. If you do wake up in the morning like most people, get yourself some sunlight by rolling out of bed and getting those blinds open. It also helps to spend some time outside. Unless you are a vampire, try not to avoid the sun.

Regular exercise and staying active has many health benefits and one of them is falling asleep at bed time. People who do physical labor all day know that when you hit the bed at night, it feels good and your body is ready for sleep. If you sit at a desk all day and your biggest activity is getting up for a snack, you may find yourself having some trouble falling asleep. Try to find time for a little exercise, most experts recommend 30 minutes but you don’t have to kill yourself, break it up into segments and take a brisk walk or get in a little bike ride, but try to do it early in the day. Exercise is a stimulant and doing it before you go to bed will not help you fall asleep.

Bad habits will also hinder your sleeping and the big ones on that list include smoking and drinking. A common misconception is that drinking before bed will help you get a good night sleep but the reality is it will reduce the quality of sleep. You may find yourself falling asleep right away when drunk but the alcohol will cause you to wake up during the night and you may find yourself unable to fall back asleep or feeling terrible in the morning instead of well rested.

The first real step to living a healthier lifestyle is to get off that damn couch, the payoff will be a big one. Americans are becoming more obese with each passing year and the problem shows no sign of slowing down. It is responsible for a large increase in heart disease, diabetes, depression, general deterioration of your health and much more.

If you are not in great shape currently, then you can do more harm than good if you jump full speed into getting in shape. Never a good idea to over do it. Here are some simple things to just get moving.

1. Turn off the television, not permanently, but a little less tube time and a little more time spent outside doing something as simple as walking is a good thing.

2. If you do make it outside for some walking, explore your naighboorhood, find a park, maybe some local water where the scenery is nice. No sense going for a walk if you are just walking to the store to buy chocolate.

3. Look at your daily routine and see where you can replace sitting with moving, it will be worth it.

Losing weight can be as simple as cutting down how much you eat and getting a little exercise but we all know that feeling hungry all the time is not a lot of fun. If the foods that you are eating are not particularly satisfying then you better your chances of eating more and gaining weight. Finding foods which are high in fiber or protein while also filling you up with less can be really helpful.

First things first, if a food is mostly crap with little nutritional content, chances are you will be back at the fridge really quickly. Look for foods with good carbs like whole grain instead of crappy refined carbs that make your stomach feel empty.

Foods like slow cooked oatmeal, apples, cabbage and broccoli are all great selections that you can eat plenty of without packing on the pounds. Experiment a little with good foods and you will find tasty dishes that will improve your life.

It started as a cough. It wasn’t the kind of cough where something is temporarily stuck in your throat. It wasn’t the kind of cough where simply clearing your throat would’ve been adequate. This was the kind of cough that hurts when you do it. A stinging pain that makes you wince and guard and hope that you don’t have to cough again any time soon. I thought I might have a fever, but of course, I was in the middle of covering a war in Afghanistan, and the conditions were… well, hot. So, maybe it was that. Problem was, the next day I wasn’t feeling any better – in fact, I was worse. I woke up in my dusty desert tent and tried to step out of my sleeping bag. Two steps later, I almost hit the deck. Incoming. Except this wasn’t due to any sirens going off, this was due to my own body simply being unable to hold myself up. I was lightheaded and freezing cold – even though it was over 100 degrees outside at that early hour of the morning.

Being addicted to food is seen in people of all ages and all walks of life. Often it will start when someone is younger and without even noticing, it can quickly spiral out of control. Eating more than your body requires is a bad thing, but eating much more than required is far worse and a recipe for disaster. One of the problems with food addiction is that it is easy to get started, parents think it is mean to deny their children food and do not realize that there is a difference between well fed and gluttoness.

Reasons to Eat MORE Saturated Fat

Written by admin. No comments Posted in: Diet

1) Improved cardiovascular risk factors
Saturated fat plays a key role in cardiovascular health. The addition of saturated fat to the diet reduces the levels of a substance called lipoprotein (a) that correlates strongly with risk for heart disease. Research has shown that when women diet, those eating the greatest percentage of the total fat in their diets as saturated fat, lose the most weight.

2) Stronger bones
Saturated fat is required for calcium to be effectively incorporated into bone. According to one of the foremost research experts in dietary fats and human health, Dr. Mary Enig, Ph.D., there’s a case to be made for having as much as 50 percent of the fats in your diet as saturated fats for this reason.

3) Improved liver health
Saturated fat has been shown to protect the liver from alcohol and medications, including acetaminophen and other drugs commonly used for pain and arthritis.
